FANART FRIDAY: THE HUNGER GAMES

Rue is mourned by the Girl on Fire.

And some variations on a theme of Mockingjay.

Katniss is such a fantastic heroine.

Too often we are subjected to one of two extremes in entertainment.  We are either served a mindless cocktail of sensory stimulation masquerading as narrative by people who think they know what we want, or are subjected to a tediously meaningful, often punishing experience by people who think they know what's good for us.  Two different flavors of condescending.

Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games, does not roll that way.  She is not here to dance for your amusement, nor has she come to grace you with her wisdom.  She has come with a worthwhile story, and she is here to tell the hell out of it.

There is no condescension.  There is no indulgence.

There only is a story like a sledgehammer and a writer with a killer hook.

  7. This made me laugh. Its great! I can see you getting all worked up and excited while reading the book.

My only beef with Collins is that she wrote 3 books and the only one selling as paperback is the 1st one. Well, can't blame her for creating as much revenue as possible.

  11. Is this writer's killer hook the sort that you find hanging on a car door the night after you've been necking at the top of Lookout Mountain?

    Beware the hook.

    PS, your drawing is wonderful.

Somehow that is less surprising than said hook.
